BTW, just to add to the "Wokies are Nuts" file; I just got back from a short errand down the block, and ran into a neighbor of mine, whom I've been friendly with for quite some years.  I complimented her on her newly-short-cut hair, and joked that she clearly wanted to get with it like all the young flapper girls do (she is about my age).  

She said something about having read a great deal lately about the Harlem Renaissance, so maybe that influenced her.  I asked her, "Really?  What have you been reading?", thinking that there might be some interesting titles from that era that I've not heard about.  She mentioned something or other by Toni Morrison; I said, "Gee, I was expecting you to mention Carl Van Vechten."  "Oh, no!" she replied. "He's a bad guy."  

Since Van Vechten was one of the biggest advocates/promoters of the Harlem Renaissance back in the day, this took me a little by surprise. "A bad guy?" I asked. "Why?"  Well, it appears that the wokies are all upset because Van Vechten wrote a book called "Nigger Heaven" about the Harlem Renaissance.  Given that The Enword was then still in current use, that "Enword Heaven" was then a common slang term for theatre balconies in segregated theatres, and given that Harlem was the "balcony" of Manhattan since it was north of the white section, the title was/is perfectly appropriate as a reflection of that time.  But Van Vechten---who was suspected of being a "passing" black, and who was also homosexual (intersectionality!) is now a "bad guy" for having written in the idiom of his era.

I guess Joseph Conrad, having written "The Enword of the Narcissus" is also on the cancellation short list.

It was the fault of the guns, obviously.     Therefore, the talking point that you mention still holds. It’s just the details of the actual people doing the shooting will be buried at the bottom of the story; if mentioned at all.

Did more shopping than I wanted to, but I was concerned our old microwave would be rusting through. The track the turntable rollers had inch long pits of rust where paint wore off, and most places had only expensive microwaves. BJs had a $60 one with better reviews than the expensive ones.

Of course it is made somewhere in China, which made me worried that when I turned it on the result would be giant mutant COVID viruses flying out like in a horror movie/////////////
