That picture can't be real. No bugs.

Do you usually insist on eating bugs with your breakfast?

Reply to Occasional Reader in 2: I can't think of a time I've eaten outside like that and bugs haven't shown up, uninvited. They insist on having some of my food.

In #3 lucius septimius said: When "raisin bread" is just a euphemism. My husband tells a story about the time he was all excited that they finally put raisins in the oatmeal while out to sea back when he was in the Navy, only to discover it was a fly in his bowl.

Of course, the Green Crazies now insist we should ALL be eating bugs, because Save The Planet and so forth. No, wait... because they're evil and crazy. That's why.

Reply to Alice in Dairyland in 5: In at least one of the books in the series that was made into the Master and Commander movie, they discuss what bugs in the food are edible.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 7: I'm reading those now. I like the movie, but the character of the doctor in the book is far more complex than what appears on film.

Reply to lucius septimius in 9: It's a really good movie, but I think they could of set up a series of profitable sequels by being more faithful to the books. I really think Master and Commander won special effects award that year. EP3 Star Wars won. In M & C the Acheron and the storm were effects. But you couldn't really tell, Star Wars you always knew it was effects, cool effects but not the same level as M & C.

Discussion question, prompted by a thread at Insty in which Nashville, TN is held up as a good place for "Blue State Refugees", followed by the commenters pointing out that while TN is red, Nashville is deep blue; same for Mephis, etc.
Where would be a good place for someone like me, who is conservative and appreciates conservative values, but also likes a lot of aspects of urban living?
Cities with that latter aspect just seem to go blue, invariably. It's depressing.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 12: I think it is like when lemmings get too crowded, they jump off cliffs. When people get too crowded in cities, they turn socialist. 1/2/

Reply to Occasional Reader in 12: We have some conservative friends who moved to Mt. Juliet a few years back. It's a suburb of Nashville but doesn't even have public transportation. Apparently the residents tend to be conservative there.

I think it's pretty easy to find conservative suburbs. It's cities - even smallish ones - that are almost impossible to find "red", it seems.

I hear a sound.... look out the sliding doors to the deck and it's raining..... The opposite side of the house, blue skies and sun. Seattle weather.
