So Neil Young is quietly returning to Spotify.  Sort of like all those film companies who weren't going to work in Georgia any more (hint: they were back within weeks).

Good morning and Happy Hallmark Day.  (Yes, yes, I know, it’s a holiday that goes back centuries, etc. etc.)

Meanwhile: Not even Jake Tapper can ❤️ Biden’s arrogant dismissal of the lengthy, detailed report about the disastrous Afghan bugout.

DURHAM: Clinton Campaign Sought to Link Trump to Russia by Infiltrating Trump Tower, White House Servers

Makes Watergate look like nothing - but will the NY Times or the Washington Post write exposes?

Why would the PR arm of the Democratic Party do that?

Precisely. And no one in the media is going to put up any story that clearly demonstrates they were wrong.

I wish I felt like saying good morning, but my heart just isn't in it today.

“When the president makes a decision, it’s time for us to execute the president’s decision.”

That is a problem many presidents have. Micromanaging.

About that line Build Back Better is paid for?

Yeah, NO! It's paid for in a tax bill.

Biden says he won't sign bipartisan bill without reconciliation bill

President Biden on Thursday said he won’t sign the bipartisan infrastructure deal if Congress doesn’t also pass a reconciliation bill, committing to a dual track system to get both bills passed.

“I expect that in the coming months this summer, before the fiscal year is over, that we will have voted on this bill, the infrastructure bill, as well as voted on the budget resolution. But if only one comes to me, this is the only one that comes to me, I’m not signing it. It’s in tandem,” Biden told reporters at the White House.

Rudyard Kipling wrote all about the "supply chain," in the context of the First World War.  Note that the rhyme and meter of this verse intentionally recalls the British sailors' song "Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies/Aidieu to you, ladies of Spain," which, BTW, Robert Shaw sings as Captain Quint in "Jaws":

Big Steamers

1914-18

"Oh, where are you going to, all you Big Steamers,
With England's own coal, up and down the salt seas?"
"We are going to fetch you your bread and your butter,
Your beef, pork, and mutton, eggs, apples, and cheese."

"And where will you fetch it from, all you Big Steamers,
And where shall I write you when you are away?
"We fetch it from Melbourne, Quebec, and Vancouver--
Address us at Hobart, Hong-Kong, and Bombay."

"But if anything happened to all you Big Steamers,
And suppose you were wrecked up and down the salt sea?"
"Then you'd have no coffee or bacon for breakfast,
And you'd have no muffins or toast for your tea."

"Then I'll pray for fine weather for all you Big Steamers,
For little blue billows and breezes so soft."
"Oh, billows and breezes don't bother Big Steamers,
For we're iron below and steel-rigging aloft."

"Then I'll build a new lighthouse for all you Big Steamers,
With plenty wise pilots to pilot you through."
"Oh, the Channel's as bright as a ball-room already,
And pilots are thicker than pilchards at Looe."

"Then what can I do for you, all you Big Steamers,
Oh, what can I do for your comfort and good?"
"Send out your big warships to watch your big waters,
That no one may stop us from bringing you food.

"For the bread that you eat and the biscuits you nibble,
The sweets that you suck and the joints that you carve,
They are brought to you daily by all us Big Steamers--
And if one hinders our coming you'll starve!"

Note:  the last line of the poem should read, "And if anyone hinders our coming, you'll starve!"  This is, alas, not the first time I've discovered typos on the site from which I took the text.

Still, it's a great poem to demonstrate supply chain results.

Discussion question. I rather like this Hogue pocket knife. Available from their website for $195.

https://www.hogueinc.com/knives/hogue/manual-knives/deka/deka-manual-folder-3-25-clip-point-blade-black-cerakote-finish-solid-black-g10-frame

It goes on Amazon for $126.  This is through a sub group at Amazon called “the Hogue store“, but when you get right down to the order it’s from a third-party seller.

Too good to be true? Counterfeit-brand knife?

Looks like the same thing to me---and a 30% discount, while fairly substantial, is not impossible.

So...blade locks but is not spring-loaded, and the catch and the clip can both be adjusted to left- or right-handedness?  Cool.

The problem with counterfeit knives is that the difference is often in things like the blade steel; which, unless you have a home metallurgy lab, you can't tell the difference.

I recently purchased a Benchmade, similar to that Hogue, from what was seemingly the Benchmade website; on sale, 40% off!  It turned out to be (almost certainly) a fake Benchmade being sold via (certainly) a fake Benchmade website.   The guy at the knife store pointed out the defects to me; they were very, very subtle.  (Fortunately, Amex took the charge off my statement after I contacted them.)

"blade locks but is not spring-loaded

Correct.  I actually prefer "assisted opening", and I have a fairly cheap Kershaw with that feature; but this one opens very smoothly even without the spring-assist (I checked one out at the knife store).

"and the clip can both be adjusted to left- or right-handedness?

I believe so, yes.  As I'm not planning on changing my handedness, this is not a big selling point for me...

County of origin: China

No offense, but that's a non-starter for me (now... my Kershaw is Chinese-made; purchased about 4 years ago).

Also, I want super-fancy steel, just because... well...

If you're not buying Chinese, you should check the reduced-price alleged-Hogue again; I believe there was something on the Amazon page that said it was Chinese-made.

Speaking of which, that's another possible "tell" on the Amazon link re: the Hogue knife.

The listing says China is country of origin.

All Hogue knives are made in the USA, per the Hogue website.

The Q&A at the Amazon link says, no, this is made in the USA... because that's where Hogue knives are made.

I wonder if the Amazon "country of origin" tab wasn't inadvertently filled out correctly in this case...

Yep, I was composing my post on that subject while you sent yours.

I find that aspect of the Amazon link "suss", as the kids say.

I had ordered the Hogue from Amazon last night; I've now requested cancellation of the order.  I'd rather pay full freight at the Hogue site, but know what I'm getting.

I suddenly realize that those people who used to hang around with signs that said, "Free Hugs" weren't offering affection, but were rather demanding (in a spelling-challenged manner) that they be given expensive knives gratis.

What is a logical reaction to this announcement.

Bank runs....

The lack of confidence won't be in the Bank as an institution, but the effect will be the same.

And the economic repercussions the same, lack of bank solvency, lack of available capital for investment, and an economic downturn at the least.
