I'm seeing chatter that the US secretly attacked the Nord Stream pipelines,  but no specifics are given, of course. That would seem like a definite escalation and a seriously stupid move, if true.

Did you know that the US is still under the national emergency that started with 9/11? It has apparently been extended every year since, and Biden extended it again

I had issues adding that link from the iPad, so hopefully the link to the White House page worked.

"Emergency" has become yet another word vacated of any concrete meaning.

I'm feeling oddly at home in the new house.  I say "oddly" because it just seems completely natural  That's not to say there aren't issues I hadn't anticipated, but on the whole it just feels happier than the old house.

People keep asking me "don't you feel sad leaving the place where you raised your kids?"  It's kind of like leaving behind my mom's house.  Neither of those places were "happy homes." Most memories associated with those places are negative. Being done with them is liberating.

Now I just have to unpack all these damn boxes, organize my office and get back to work.

I'm both scared for them, and kind of mad at them... they're smart people, I can't believe they didn't just GTFO two or even three days ago.

When I parted ways with my ex/Little OR's mom, I felt jubilant about being in my new place, despite the fact that I'd resided in the previous one for years, and, yes, Little OR's first several months of life had been there.  But the place had, at that point, too many negative waves, Moriarty!, associated with the deteriorated relationship with my ex.

Had to cut the grass and then run to Home Depot.  Now I need to sort through glassware and figure out what needs to be out, what goes in the bar, and what can be boxed up.

Somewhat better news; they made it to a friend's house further inland (their own house is fairly close to the water), and are riding it out there.

Another word that has become meaningless - "apartheid"

Originally, it referred to the racist system of South Africa in which the white settlers kept the indigenous blacks from using the same parks, hospitals, etc as the whites.

It was extended to mean all legalized discrimination based on race.

Amnazi (or is it Amnesty) International says Israel is apartheid because of its treatment of the "Palestinians"

Israeli Arabs have all the rights as Israeli Jews (except they do not have to serve in the IDF, but can volunteer).

So, are Israeli Arabs and Palestinian Arabs the same race or different races? It is clear they are the same race.

Any discrimination is due to national identity, not race. If that is apartheid, the term is meaningless, as every country discriminates between citizens and noncitizens.

Jukebox, largely because the intro talks about a big hurricane.

And a cartoon with a more classic version of the same song
