If a for-profit company had done this, I believe tar and feathers would have been recommended.

So, how many new lakefront houses has Randi Weingarten purchased recently?

And will she and Patrice Collors be neighbors?

In #9 vxbush said: she'll need to purchase new digs in DC as a result of her DHS hiring I understand she's simply on an advisory panel to DHS (yes, advising on what???), not a full-time hire, in replacement of her current phony-baloney job.

By the way, referring back to our conversation at Insty of yesterday: I would urge you to put aside your dislike of Spielberg, and watch Empire of the Sun when you have an opportunity. I think it's an extraordinarily good movie (one of my top 5 favorites), and definitely atypical of Spielberg's style.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 15: I'll give it some thought; it partly depends on what the distaff side is willing to watch. I saw the initial Indiana Jones films, Jaws, ET, etc., and was not impressed. It's been a long time since then, so I couldn't name the scenes now, but at the time I was picking out "OK, he ripped off this from that, and that from this other thing..." Basically, I believe that Spielberg's alleged "film genius" is merely his recycling of stuff from older films that the vast bulk of his audience has never seen or even heard of. I don't mind a certain amount of cross-pollination/borrowing, but I think Spielberg overdid it. Nonetheless, I take a recommendation from you seriously, and "The Empire of the Sun" is a film I've actually wanted to see, though I've never acted on that impulse.

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 17: I don't think you'll be disappointed. The novel (by J.G. Ballard) is interesting, too, but this is one of the rare instances in which I'd say the film is better than the novel.

Remember last summer when I was trying to sell my old house? Remember that I had the sale fall through because of a tree? The tree that couldn't be trimmed, hence they couldn't build a new house on my property? And I had to sell for less to another buyer who was just going to remodel? Because tree? I drove by the old homestead yesterday. They trimmed the tree. They ripped down my old house and built a McMansion on the site - all things I was told couldn't be done. I'm pissed. They fucked me over.

Reply to lucius septimius in 20: Hey, fuck me over, I'll sell you stuff You will get over, and tell me it's enough I could have got more than the cash I was paid But the bureaucracy wouldn't let me make the grade So I'll be real out of pocket, and I know why But I can only take it on the chin even as you lie I'm far too short with the wherewithal, but what else can I do? Thanks so much to the State---I tell you I hate you!
