More about the land purchased around the Travis Air Force Base.. Not much new, but there are at least some names now connected to the project.

Ukraine forces pierce Russian line of defenses in at least one sector of the front.

City? Well that dog won't hunt.

What are people who move to a "walkable and green" city going to HATE more than anything?

Military jet traffic flying overhead.

From want I can gather Ukraine is slowing winning a war of attriation.

They are fighting smart, 20 years of training with US Special Forces. Russian is still fighting the same old way.

Notes from Cell-Phone Hell:  My Verizon cell phone, which is supposed to carry 2 phone numbers, has never worked properly, but recently started to work even less properly; not only was the voicemail for Number #2 never able to be set up properly, but even the voicemail for Number #1 went south a week or so ago.

The Verizon Store geniuses determined that this was a hardware problem, and I ordered a new phone (no cost; still under warranty), and told them to deliver it, not to my street/billing address, but to my mail-drop box which is more secure.

The Verizon idiot who took the order transposed the addresses, putting my billing address as the delivery address, and the delivery address as my billing address.  Since then I've been bombarded by Verizon emails "questioning my order"; I've tried to call them, and the bot that answers tells me I'm "not authorized" to access the account (thanks, AI!).  I spoke with a variety of well-meaning idiots on the phone via other means, who supposedly cleared up the problem, and got yet another "questioning" email from these fools.

I'm looking at switching my service to T-Mobile, which has made lots of lovely welcoming noises, and which several folks here I know already use.  Does anyone have any recommendations, either as to a better server than Verizon, or thoughts about T-Mobile, or anything related?

They all suck?

Other than that, I've got nothin'.   I've used AT&T since roughly forever, and they're okay, I guess.  They just have spotty coverage in Westchester (where my parents live), inconveniently.

I've been using Consumer Cellular for a long time. Great customer service, they don't have some of the high end features. They are great for a budget family plan.

Where I live, Verizon is the only one with decent coverage.

I have found their online chat to be useless; a 1970-s "AI" program like Doctor/Eliza would be an improvement.

Phone support is better.

The store nearby has people who actually know what they are doing.

But still VZW screws up. They respond very well to FCC complaints, however! Twice.

The second one would not have occurred had they let the chat agents know there was an outage in my area.

FIrst time was trying to activate a wifi hotspot - I was told 2 hours; did not work next morning - took 3 attempted activations and 3 fees. After the FCC complaint that they weren't going to credit everything, they did.
