JCM, do you have any context to share with the following: Seattle sheriff tells people to ‘give up your car keys’ I mean, the left always says give the robber whatever they ask for, don't fight, etc. The idea that a gun might even the odds is so lost on these people that you truly wonder about their ability to find any brain cells in their brainpan.

Common use definitions. Sheriff's are elected, and Police Chief are appointed by the appointing authority, mayor council, etc... King Co. Used to have an elected Sheriff. But when the Sheriff's wouldn't go along with the agenda and allow shoplifting, drug use and vagrancy, the King Co. Executive Smack Daddy Dow Constantine who thinks drug trafficking, human tracking, and corruption at a Chicago level is peachy keen couldn't get the Sheriff to toe the line. He put a ballot measure to turn the Sheriff's department into a police force so he could appoint a imbecile who would say yes sir to to him. This is want you get, corrupt, criminal enabling Police Chief beholden to corrupt, tyrannical bags of feces.

I was just running some errands, and ran into the guy who lived in the apartment below the one I recently vacated. We were chatting about this and that, when a youth of color came up and tried to panhandle me for a dollar; I told him to go ask someone else. He went away, and minutes later one of his pals---he was hangin' with several pals---came up and tried to ask me something. I said, "So, your friend sent you to ask again?", or something of the sort, and he (sputteringly) tried to deny it, until I pointed out to him that he'd just been talking to the other kid. I told him to go away, too, which he did---but in retrospect, I wish I'd told him that I'd give him 25 cents if he could tell me who Louis Armstrong was, another 25 cents if he could tell me who Jelly Roll Morton was, and two more quarters if he'd tell me who Jimmy Rushing and Duke Ellington were.
