So, riding the subways the other day and marveling at the prevalence of both young, attractive women and not-so-young-or-attractive women sporting the bare-midriff look that has been popular for a few years now, I finally came up with a name for this fashion phenomenon: "Salome Stomach." Salome, you'll remember, was the gal who did the "Dance of the Seven Veils" striptease for Herod to persuade him to bring her the head of John the Baptist.

Given that some of the women who have adopted this style of midriff revelation are quite attractive, I propose that those sporting "Salome Stomach" who are be rated on a scale of one to seven veils---and those who are grossly overweight or otherwise inappropriately ill-shaped for the fashion they've adopted be rates as "To No Avail."
