Blog update status:

Got the new computer with enough memory and storage to really work on it.

(Under $700 for i7 processor, 32GB RAM, 1 TB SSD; HP Labor Day Sale, but it was a custom order and took 3 weeks to come from Vietnam. Better than China)

Found moving a Visual Studio project to another computer is harder than it should be.

Should be able to get it running on the new computer soon, then fix problems and see if I can figure out what is going wrong.

Nice! My laptop is a 7 year MacBook. My boys are why don't you get a new one? You can afford it! I respond, "Why it works great! Does everything I need."

Putin continues to poke and prod. (Telegraph headlines is clickbait)

With a friendly wave, Russian pilots dared Nato to start a war

For the next 12 minutes, the Italian pilots trailed the Russians all the way to the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad – an unprecedented length of time for an incursion into Nato airspace.

A transit by fighters over a nation without prior flight plan is really provocative.

Putin is in a corner with Ukraine. He can't win. A ceasefire and peace treaty will be a huge loss of face. Instigating a war with NATO is a way out for him. He can claim of course he can't fight NATO, the Imperialist US had to interfere so I have to save the Russian People come to a peace deal. That way it is not his mistake he's been forced to.

Last place I worked, they considered computers obsolete after 4 years, and not reliable enough.

SSD's wear out - they are only good for a certain number of writes (they have spare cells that are used to replace some that are wearing out) but still, they fail after a while.

My Macbook Pro barely made it beyond 3 years of Applecare when it appears the thermal sensor failed. Would have needed a new system board. I think Apple should have fixed it for free after all the trouble I had with that computer, but they would not, so I will NEVER buy an Apple product again.

I replaced a $2000 laptop with a $600 one that started to have problems after 2 years - it worked fine, but the keys were falling off the keyboard. An external keyboard and I got another year out of it.

Could have bought a new one every year instead of the Macbook and still saved money.

Within a month the DVD drive and screen failed; needed a new system board and keyboard, too, and the DVD drives kept failing as well.

Each failure, 2 trips to the "Genius Bar", so those repairs were worth at least 6 hours of my time, probably $60/hr.

I've had Dell systems fail that I could fix; they would send me the parts. Much easier.

I've always had good luck with my Apple stuff. But for my next laptop I'm seriously considering a nice machine and running Linux.

I usually put Linux on older systems. Currently have one running Ubuntu and one running Fedora.

I prefer Ubuntu but set up the Fedora system because I was using RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) at work, and Fedora is the free version.

I also run WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) on all my systems; some Linux utilities work better than Windows, and I can develop for both.

WSL now supports graphics programs so the windows appear in Windows; no need for a third party XWindows server.

Vicious 'Attack Squirrel' in San Francisco Area Proves That Not Only Humans Are Nuts in the Bay Area

The San Francisco area has an attack squirrel problem. The Bay Area town of San Rafael is reporting at least one, possibly more, squirrels who have gone absolutely nuts and started to attack humans.

At least two people have been hospitalized, with other attacks reported. Local residents posted flyers warning people that "this is not a joke."

Russia declares NATO and EU are now 'at war' with Moscow in chilling escalation

Russia's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov declared NATO and the EU are now "at war" with Moscow in chilling escalation of rhetoric. The declaration comes after several instances of Russian drones seen flying across NATO nations, including Poland.

"NATO and the EU, through Ukraine, have declared war on Russia ad are directly participating in it," Lavrov said on Thursday.

Speaking of spin, use of the word Nazi, i.e. "right wing".

Mauser 98.

Same rifle as used in the assasination of Charlie Kirk.

What are the odds?

Yah, died of high velocity lead poisoning and body ventilation.

There are far left groups, Transtifa, John Brown Gun Club who are arming and practicing for events like this.

Two incidents within weeks Using of an uncommon firearm. A WWII firearm will be hard to trace. I highly doubt two "kids" would select a Mauser 98, write messages on the rounds, and target high profile targets without shall we say, "input".

Carbon cycle flaw could push Earth into an ice age as planet overcorrects for warming

UC Riverside researchers have discovered a piece that was missing in previous descriptions of the way Earth recycles its carbon. As a result, they believe that global warming can overcorrect into an ice age.
