Oh, I missed this over the weekend: Two suspects in the daring Louvre heist that saw $100 million worth of historic French crown jewels disappear have been caught, according to authorities. Unfortunately, the dazzling royal gems are still missing.

And yet the names have not been released. I shouldn't make too many assumptions about what those name might reflect, should I?

The latest Trump freakout about the White House ballroom is really something to be hold. These people are being led like fish on a hook and can't stop to realize they are being pushed into this particular 2-minute hate session. The things that they are fixating on--such as the fact that the mockups are, get this, mockups--really is stunning in the petty vindictiveness.

To see The Washington Post straighten up under Bezos and have a sanity-laden article on this is refreshing, indeed.

The robbery was curious. Stealing well know items is dumb. But the robbery was pretty smart. So they aren't dumb. That essentially leaves two options. Robbery on contract, somebody wanted those jewels and hired them do do it. Or they break them up and sell the stones and the melt the gold or silver down, that gets them a fraction of the value. But still some of the individual gems are still known items.

Part of me thinks it was a group that (a) thought it was smart, and was smart enough to realize that security was crap, and (b) didn't think through what they would really do once they had the items. The fact that hair and fibers were found on the items suggests they really weren't as smart as they thought they were.
