Star in the Night A lovely and little-known Christmas movie. This 22-minute film from 1945 won the Oscar for short films that year. It was directed by Don Siegel, who if memory serves later did the early "Dirty Harry" movies. One of the actors is Charles Lane, who plays one of the reporters in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington"; the proprietor of the motel where the action takes place is J. Carroll Naish, who did a lot of ethnic characters with foreign accents (he plays the Italian soldier in the Bogart film "Sahara"); one of the cowboys is played by the actor who was the barracks chief in "Stalag 17."
