Good morning. Been wrapping my head around an assessment done on the Squire by some special needs counselors from the school board. Just a preliminary, and unsure of their standings. They have pegged him at the social age of 18-24 months. Which is, I guess, about what I have been figuring. Still waiting to hear from the pediatrician for an appointment.

Speaking from experience, the devil is in the details of those things.  Part of the problem with ASD is that it differs widely from case to case.

Well, yesterday's election in NYC was pathetic.  Jumaane Williams was re-elected as "Public Advocate," the barely-job that DeBlasio held before becoming Mayor.  Williams seems to be as much of a nutbar Leftist as DeBlasio is, with, of course, added blackness.  I'm sure that Williams will also use the Public Advocate office as a springboard to becoming mayor (shudder).

There were a bunch of judges who were all running unopposed---vote for any five of ...five---who were endorsed by the Democrats, the Republicans, and Some Other Party alike.  Why bother to vote for any of them?

All of the amendments proposed to the city charter passed.  My feeling was, if we'd gotten along without them thus far, why do we need them now? But apparently mine was the minority view.  We'll have "weighted" voting now, where you're supposed to rank who you vote for in order of preference; the chances for fraud and confusion abound.

Worst of all was the experience of voting with the New! Improved! voting cards; the book they look you up in before you get your ballot is gone, and it's all in a computer.  The poll workers at my station had the IQ of cabbages, and it took about five times longer to get a ballot than it used to; fortunately, there was a light turnout, but next year is going to be a nightmare.  What is interesting is that the new voter registration cards, with their barcodes, actually are "voter ID," even though nobody calls them that---heavens, no.  But then, not really---because the woman in front of me did not have her voter registration card, so they just looked up her name in the computer, had her sign the screen, and gave her a ballot anyway, on her say-so.  I'm sure there are all sorts of new and exciting way to tally fraudulent votes.

Good morning.  Needless to say, I am not happy about the politics news from the other side of the Potomac.  Given the demographic trends in Virginia I suppose this should not be surprising, but it seems my long-cherished vision of VA as a somewhat-red-but-still-geographically-close option for me is, at the very least, postponed.

Ah, I see. I don't think it's that since he's extremely social. Extremely active and other things. Then again, what do I know?

I'm impressed that you even bother voting (in local elections) at all.  I quit that practice in disgust here in DC years ago.  (Of course, my vote for POTUS is entirely symbolic here, too.)

Lucius, if you're seeing this, could you send me an e-mail so I have your current contact info?  I have a quick question for you (and I think the e-mail address I have for you is no longer valid).  Thanks.  (If you need a reminder of my own e-mail address, just let me know, please.)

Will the pediatrician be doing a similar assessment, and/or validating (or not) the results of the one already done?

There is less and less reason to vote in NYC; one feels like the proverbial bee that stings the hand that crushes it, in a last futile gesture.

I kept my registration as a Democrat for the purpose of trying to at least aid the less-vile alternative in those primaries where an alternative exist, and to be able to confound those with whom I've argued over issues by saying, "I'm a registered Democrat" when they start in on the "You Republicans..." line, but increasingly neither is worth it.  The alternatives in the Democrat primaries (the Real Election in NYC) are between the fascist wing of the party and the communist wing.

Sadly, the Republicans are not an alternative.  They wrote off the city long ago. They do not even field candidates for many races, and as I mentioned above, in yesterday's election they endorsed the same candidates for judgeships that the Democrats did.  When they field mayoral candidates, they invariably choose guaranteed losers.

I recall seeing the DC crowd booing Trump when he showed up for a baseball game during the World Series, and the liberal media gloating over it. I wonder how they felt seeing the photos of the Washington Nationals visiting the White House, with catcher Kurt Suzuki wearing a MAGA hat?

I believe that she will be doing her own assessment. School needed to do theirs to justify extra assistance.

Yep, I think we've discussed this before.  I did the same thing here, for much the same reasons, and then finally decided I was too disgusted by the Democrats to be a registered Democrat any more, even for somewhat-ironic purposes.  If I recall correctly, it was when the NYT published the SWIFT terror-funding-tracking story; that was finally the last straw for me (2006).
