Good morning. Day off today, thank god.

Then I saw this, a pair of students were suspended for refusing to wear a "rainbow poppy". Schools up here are getting to the wood chipper level of correction.

No first amendment in Canada, so not much they can do about it. Correct?

While I'm bugging Kosh about the Return of Italics, I'd like to also note that the timestamps on the posts seem to correspond to Pacific time, when they formerly corresponded to Eastern time on the Old Site.

Is that intentional, or just one of those things?

That about sums it up. We have "free speech" of a sort written into our constitution, but it's hacked and hewed down to "protect" minorities. For the longest time we had hate speech written into our criminal laws and system. Then there's the kangaroo courts of the Human Rights commissions all over the damned country.

I remember on CC that if you weren't logged in it would show PST instead of your local time zone. Think that was one of the options in viewer preferences.

Good morning, Starshine(s).

Kosh, if you're so inclined, I think you can take down the "... for when C2 is down" description on the masthead.  This is the blog now.

In my more optimistic moments, I like to think that the militant gay lobby is badly overreaching at this point.  They seem to be in a coordinated effort to sh*t on everything that doesn't bow down to them; and the Normals (including, perhaps, even the gay Normals) are starting to push back.

Steyn flashback:  Diversity unto death (ten  years after the "workplace violence"):

"Major Hasan was the first mass murderer in US history to give a PowerPoint presentation outlining the rationale for the crime he was about to commit. And he gave it to a roomful of fellow army psychiatrists and doctors - some of whom glanced queasily at their colleagues, but none of whom actually spoke up. And, when the question of whether then Captain Hasan was, in fact, "psychotic", the policy committee at Walter Reed Army Medical Center worried "how would it look if we kick out one of the few Muslim residents".

This is your brain on political correctness."

(By the way: Should we even still refer to him as "Major"?  Wasn't he stripped of his rank (one would hope)?)

Heh.  Study finds Washington Post pays women, minorities less.  WaPo responds, but the study doesn't control for things like position, performance and job experience!

How much do want to bet that WaPo has repeatedly run the "women get paid 80 cents to a man's dollar" falsehood/left talking point (but I repeat myself) in the past without mentioning those factors?

Pacific time is appropriate in that it symbolizes the end of time, .... in the lower 48.

Or something...

Just heard of a "Jewish comedian" named Matt Lieb, who is a paid shill for Al-Jazeera.  Here's an example of his nonsense.

It's a little long, but worth seeing what a real kapo looks like.

Here's a slightly-shorter example of Lieb's spewing: "Why Antisemites Love Israel."

He throws it all in here: "white supremacy," Richard Spencer, defense of Omar and Tliab, attacks on Trump.  It's fascinating, in a creepy kind of way.

The 1st Amendment is part of the US Constitution, which obviously does not apply in Canada. We do have a Constitution which includes a Charter of Rights & Freedoms. The right to free speech is one of the listed rights. The hate speech law, which Phil referred to, does not apply in this case as nobody is engaged in hate speech. I am certain that if the family of the students involved were to take the school to court, they would win. But they are poor indigenous family in Manitoba and don't have the money to do that.

What to make of racism, sexism and homophobia — from the same people lecturing us about bigotry

"Anti-Semitism within hard-left anti-Zionist circles has been a problem for decades. But that is now metastasizing into a more general phenomenon, with the result that the social-justice movement increasingly seems like an exercise in hypocrisy and psychological projection."

As I always say, "Anti-Zionism" is just a way of saying that there are six million Jews one wouldn't mind seeing eliminated.

I will once again make a plea that people do their best to avoid the word "antisemitism."  Recall that it was invented as a pseudoscientific term in the 19th century by a German Jew-hater who wanted to make his "race-based" Jew-hate sound "scientific" and parlor-acceptable.

Why should we use a word invented by a Jew-hater to sugar-coat his hatred?  The more so, since the anti-Zionists and "Palestinian" apologists are now trying to stretch the term, and render it meaningless, by saying "We support the Arabs, and they're Semites too, so how can we be antisemitic?"

There's an old American term: "Cut the cackle," which basically means "Quit bullshitting and talk straight."  It's time we cut the cackle, and cut through the cackle, by retiring a term invented by a Jew-hater and which is long past its sell-by date.  Don't say "antisemitism."  Say "Jew-hate." That's what it is and what it always was.  The Left, which is cozying up to the Jew-haters, loves to fling about the terms "hate" and "hater." Calling them "Jew-haters" turns this back on them; it's throwing a bucket of cold water in their faces, and they will not know how to deal with it.

The "anti-Zioniists" often piously maintain that Some Of My Best Friends Are Jews, their only objection is to the existence of an ethno-religious state.   Yet, they don't seem to mind that that same country is surrounded by (much larger) countries with names like The Islamic Republic of This and The Arab Republic of That.

Isn't that weird?!

Well, as they used to say, every German had his "good Jew" even if he considered the rest scum.  So having the odd "Jewish friend" is no cover.

What I have at times pointed out is the disingenuous character of the whole discussion.  They throw about terms like "refugee" and "right of return" but have no understanding of the historical background to those terms.  Worse, they use the word "occupation" avoiding the fact that when BDSholes use the word, what they mean is the state of Israel -- in their world view, the Israelis are illegally "occupying" the sacred homeland of the Palestinians (who never really existed).  That rhetoric is generally linked to the canard that Israel only came into existence because of Allied guilt after WWII, that there were no Jews in "Palestine" before 1945, etc. etc.  It's all a pack of lies, but there are a great many people -- and in my experience ALL of them are on the left -- who accept these lies as facts (the right-wing Jew-haters I know peddle different lies).

My ex, when she taught a class on Jewish history, would put it this way to the people who spouted this nonsense.  "Are you willing to see all the Jews of Israel killed?  Because that's the only way that they will 'end the occupation' -- there will never be a Jew-free Palestine unless you kill every Israeli.  And they won't go quietly."  The response was usually shocked silence because they had never thought the thing through -- they merely repeated BDS cant without stopping for a second to think what it really meant.

Haven't even tried to get that fixed. I think it depends on the server, too. Behaves differently when debugging on my machine.
