Good morning from the frozen north. Day off and lot's of chores to do including shopping. First doctor's appointment for me and the Squire in about an hour. Looking at all the global warming on the van and shudder. Have to find where the wife put the long johns from last winter. Got my winter boots at least. Debating on whether I should splurge for a new pair or just wear these ones out that are over six years old.

Good morning! We got a big dump of snow yesterday & overnight.

Don Cherry got fired by Sportsnet from the Coaches Corner segment of hockey shows, for complaining that immigrants who don't wear a poppy on Remembrance Day are ungrateful. Meanwhile Justin Trudeau gets a pass for wearing blackface on multiple occasions.

Hi Phil! I stopped by CrappyTire yesterday & picked up an early Christmas present for my teenage son: a new snow shovel. The moment he saw it he developed a sudden interest in his homework.

I volunteered to help coach my son's hockey team this season. As they play on an outdoor rink, I'm not complaining about the cold snap. It will help ensure a good ice for opening day on Nov. 23rd.

Yet more proof (as if we needed any) that leftists who hate our civilization get a pass no matter what they do (blackface or murdering 100 million people) but anyone who opposes them must be cancelled.

Yep, I took up the Canuckian baton here at RB and posted that last night.  I'd like to think this will be A Bridge Too Far for the Wokestapo, but you'd know that better than I.

"early Christmas present for my teenage son: a new snow shovel."

I do hope you wrapped it, or at least had a nice bow on it.

I did pick up nice, brand-new winter boots yesterday... for Little OR.  Me, I'll be using my old ones... (he'd better damn well appreciate and remember this stuff down the road when he becomes the world's first trillionaire.)

There's a rumour that SportsNet offered to let Don keep his job if he issued a craven apology. Don told them to take  hike.

Yup, I put a bow on it. The look on his face was priceless.

The Squire is outgrowing footwear, or wearing them out. Take your pick.

Doctor's visit went well. We both got flu shots, me first and he took his with only the minimal complaints. Have full physicals booked in January for the both of us.

We were lucky to get lots o' shoes as hand-me-downs from friends and relatives for the two oldest boys until they were about six.  With girl child, all those were useless.  Number 3 son gets new shoes about every six months -- for good ones I try to stretch by buying a bigger size and then putting paper in the toes until he grows into them.

You can't win the shoe game.  Best to just find a cheap source -- Target is my go-to here.

A sad day. Someone had to vandalize a cenotaph. Although there message seems to speak volumes, it was the wrong thing to do.

Not complaining, it's the nature of the beast. Can't really hand down his used footwear either since he's really hard on them. Guess it means he's really active.

When the choir sang In Flanders Fields at the offertory on Sunday I wonder how many understood that part of the poem?  It did make an impression on my 11 yo.

sneakers just disintegrate at a certain point.  I need to buy Princess some good shoes -- she's taken to stealing her mom's, which I don't mind all that much since I paid for (and am still paying for) the damn things.

I seem to be the source for that phenomenon in this case (and, in fairness, Little OR's mom, who buys him a lot of nice stuff).  I'm already handed over bags of stuff to two of my minions, one of whom has a 1 year-old, the other with a baby on the way for next month; with more stuff to come.

Greetings, everyone. I spent the morning at two job interviews. One was sort of a general getting-to-know-you with a staffing agency that might have something for me. The other was a three-month contract at Coca-Cola. It's an immediate start once I pass a background check (hope they don't find out about my time with the Sinaloa cartel!) and I really would love to work there.

I have given away so much of the clothes he's out grown it's terrifying. Of course I was a recipient of such largess in the beginning so I had to pass it forward.

34 degrees as the sun sets.  I should get the mail but I'm afraid my Tauntaun will freeze before I get to the first marker.

Do they accept pieces of eight at stores? What's the current doubloon exchange rate?

Reply to doppelganglander in 27:   He'd probably have better luck with them than the US dollar coins.  Clerks usually think it's a quarter.  The change machine at work gives you dollars coins for change so you'll hopefully spend them back in their vending machines.  I get stuck with them when we pass a sympathy or get well card around.  I can't put them in the card, so I end up having to buy them back.

Can they even sing this with the original lyrics now?
