Morning, campers. Central Illinois is supposed to reach a high of 55ºF today, for which I am absolutely thrilled. I hope everyone else is enjoying warmer temperatures this week.

Bummer. And yet, it is rather expected in your area. Here's a prescription to alleviate some discomfort.

Politics... corrupt politics

Over the last 30 years WA votes have 3 times voted to lower the excise tax on licensing vehicles. Each time the tax slowing goes up. The last time the taxes increase 300% to 500% to fund the toy train, a process which is illegal on numerous counts but the State AG and courts went along with it.

Voters again passed a measure to lower the car tab tax to $30. The Toy train people and Seattle / King Co.immediate ran to a tame judge to get an injunction ... in King Co. And the State Supreme Court which is hard left and sets aside laws because they are "old". Vote to uphold the injunction.

This puts Sideshow Bob, who sues Trump for breathing, in the position of "defending" the car tab measure in court. A measure which he vocally opposed, when he changed a law from "and" to "or" so the toy transit people didn't have to met all the requirements to continue tolling road. Furthermore Bob's challenge in court against was the ballot title was flawed. Well guess who writes the titles? Bob.

Sideshow never ask for change of venue when going before a judge who's employer is the plaintiff.

There are conflicts of interest six ways from Sunday on this....

Oh. Oops. Didn't think of that aspect. Well, it could be much, much worse.

Fun part of new vehicle ownership. Van had a check engine light (how I hate those things) one before purchase. Was told that it would be fixed before pickup. Well it's still on. This morning I finally had a chance to call the dealership to ask about it. Unfortunately I am still waiting for a call back. :/

How vile is Schiff....

Nunes rips Schiff over subpoena of phone records: 'I actually have some civil rights here, too'

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., was hit on Wednesday by Rep. Devin Nunes, who called a subpoena for his phone records an infraction of his "civil rights."

On Tuesday, the committee released a report on the impeachment inquiry which included records of calls from Nunes, presidential lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Jay Sekulow, journalist John Solomon, Fox News host Sean Hannity, a Giuliani connection Lev Parnas, and other White House associates.

Schiff subpoenaed both AT&T and Verizon for the information. The act has sent a chill among Republicans concerned about the chairman's reach.

You don't have to be a Republican to find Schiff's behavior despicable and dangerous. And what's with the scare quotes around "civil rights?"

Deplorables don't deserve "Civil Rights"!

It would be SCARY if they did! They might fight back!

Democrats act as if they'll be in power forever. I don't want my side behaving the way they do, but realistically, why shouldn't they?

I was trying to find the justification Schiff had to send out such subpoenas. I still haven't found it, although OR did point me to a twitter feed where this was discussed.

Congress Critters enjoy some immunities to do their job, which is appropriate.

Schiff is making McCarthy look reasonable.

What about proposing a law that says one member from each political party present on the committee must sign off on the subpoena?

Already is....

IIRC both parties on a committee have to agree...

However my guess is Schiff changed the rules... without a vote.

So here, the chair must notify the ranking member of the other party about the subpoena. According to Nunes, Schiff told him that he subpoena'ed some phone numbers, but Nunes says he wasn't told whose numbers they were. That would seem to mean that Schiff is meaning "notify" in the sense of "oh, I sent out some subpoenas" instead of giving Nunes the details of the subpoenas. Not cool, in my book.

From Schiff coaching the "whistleblower", rewriting the whistleblower rules to subpoenaing Nunes' phone records.

Schiff has been putting the sleaze into sleazeball.

I would like to see a similar document written up from a lawyer on the Republican side of the sphere. That would be entertaining to compare.

Which is a sad commentary on the current state of our system.

That politics so taints opinions on matters of Rule of Law.

The different application of law in different circumstances, for different people is undermining the foundations of the Republic.

That foundation is a "trust society", where there is an implicit knowing that most people, elected officials, bureaucrats, civil servants, people in the private sector "trust" everyone else to adhere to the same set of rules, to be objective about it. Even when in the short term it is not in our self interest we understand that the "trust" is required in the long term for a function society and Republic.

That is the inimical evil of the Critical Theory of the Progressives, it is DESIGN fundamentally to destroy that "trust" and balkanize society and politics.

I've had a fun day.  I've had an earache since Thanksgiving.  Tuesday night it started to get particularly bad so I made an appointment with the doctor.  By last night the whole right side of my face had swollen up, my ear canal had swollen shut, and I was in so much pain from the pressure and swelling that I couldn't sleep.  Not even Tylenol-3 could make a dent in it.  Turns out I have two distinct infections.  He gave me a shot of antibiotics and a super-duper anti-inflammatory.  That eventually got rid of most of the pain.  Now I have drops and more antibiotics  and an anti-inflammatory and percocet in case the pain comes back.

I've done nothing for the past five hours other than snooze on the couch with Fat Kitteh in my lap.  He likes it when Daddy is sick.

I thought it was just swimmer's ear which goes away by itself pretty quickly.  And it was swimmer's ear -- plus other things that meant it wasn't going anywhere.
