Good morning, fellow “lying, dog-faced pony soldiers”.

Did you watch the clip of Biden saying that? At first, I understood his tone to mean that he was joking. But the words don't lend themselves to it being a joke. It's truly bizarre.

Morning to you, OR, and all fellow campers.

Ahhh -- the "my ex + something said in the Old West + pre-1955 film title" insult.

I had never heard of it before--but then I'm not a fan of old movies.

Police called after 6 year-old in Pennsylvania school points finger at teacher and says "I shoot you".

As Glenn Reynolds likes to say at moments like these:  "Tar. Feathers."

Heard the irritating voice of Elizabeth Warren on NPR this morning, talking about how glad she was that in New Hampshire she could "explain why she is running for president."

Left it a little late, didn't you, Liz?

"The Feast of Nemesis" by Saki

A short read, but a good 'un.

While I'm mentioning Saki, his story "The Gala Programme" would seem to be appropriate in light of the phalanx of women in white "recalling the Suffragettes" at the State of the Union address.

MSNBC host Katy Tur worries aloud that the wicked GOP is gerrymandering US Senate elections.  Yes, you read that right.

I wonder if this story inspired the "Festivus" idea by the Seinfeld writers.

Interesting speculation; seems possible.

For those unfamiliar with Saki, I strongly urge that they acquire his short stories.  Very funny, very conservative---and because they rarely run more than three pages, they make excellent bedtime reading.

He has the slight tinge of antisemitism not uncommon in British writers of the pre-WWI period, but it only surfaces in a few of his stories, and not overly nastily.  His story "The Byzantine Omelet" is a hilarious takedown of Socialism.
