Very interesting post by Christopher Monckton of Benchley on whether lockdowns work.  Short answer is "yes," but the piece is worth a read beyond that.

And of course, liberal acquaintances feel perfectly justified in sending out the latest daily show nonsense blaming everything about the pandemic on Trump; but if you point out, say, that Nancy Pelosi was urging people to go to lunar Chinese new year celebrations and hug strangers, they start moaning that you are “politicizing“.

What's disappointing is their lack of imagination when it comes to names for the Evil One.  It's just Drumpf or some such.  Not nearly so thoughtful as Chimpy McHitlerburton.

One of the people engaging in this is someone I directly supervise. I look at the crap he’s sending me via WhatsApp, and I think, you know, it’s a good thing for you I’m not petty, like a liberal.

I wouldn't dream of engaging in political discussion with my manager. I might with a peer, but only if I know the person can remain cordial if we disagree. I've been lucky enough to work with mostly pleasant, competent people. I know how rare that is and I don't want to poison the environment.

I had one manager I could freely discuss politics with. He was to the right of me.

You see, he grew up in Hungary under Communism.

Long ago, I had a manager try to pressure me about political views and votes.

i swore after that to never be that manager.

I have given some thought to that captain that got fired from that aircraft carrier.

the average age on a carrier is in the twenties.

Very few deaths from this virus happen in that age group.

he took a ship of the line out of service over a virus that rarely is fatal to the the overwhelming majority of his command.

Inconvenient, very certainly, but inconvenience is not something that should take a weapon like that offline.

I found out a little while ago that my sister got it.  She was on cruise around New Zealand -- although the NZ authorities turned them back they had not tested the crew.  Consequently, there were people working in the galley with the Kung Flu.  Over 600 passengers of that ship have ended up sick.  She'd doing ok -- supposedly she's over it now, but she feels very weak.

In #6 Kosh's Shadow said: I had one manager I could freely discuss politics with. He was to the right of me. You see, he grew up in Hungary under Communism.

No one dislikes Communism more than someone who had to live under it.

These Corona Press briefings give Trump an opportunity to be the verbal pugilist that he enjoys being.

he doesn’t always punch very well but he is always punching, which means that he lands a lot more good blows than any other Republican President has been able to do since Reagan.

Reagan was skillful, a sharpshooter with a scoped rife, where Trump is a street fighter with a shotgun and a club.
