Look at the home page of BBC News for a moment: Ugh. The glee going on is just unreal. Why do people not realize that what is going on elsewhere might happen where they are as well? I'm thinking of all those limousine liberals who were thrilled about riots in other parts of their town, and then got all upset when the riots came to their part of town. I guess they want Detroit-levels of decay everywhere. That must be their idea of utopia.

There are a number of things at work. First of all, crises like these give liberals endless opportunities to engage in pointless acts of moral vanity. Preen and fuss and make pious sounds and repeat vacuous formulas, all the while feeling morally superior to anyone else. Because, in the end, their sense of self is far more important than any material consequences. There is also the "never let a crisis go to waste" mindset. Liberals see in the chaos and opportunity. But they mainly seem to use it as an opportunity to dump on Drumpf and propose idiotic policies that will never happen. Still, the excitement is palpable. There is also among them not a few of the sorts Florence King described as "tender misanthropes." They may make lots of noise about "caring" and what not, but in their hearts they hate people. They might like people if those people lived up to their ideological expectations (as when they look in the mirror) but since the overwhelming majority don't, they're perfectly happy to see their homes and businesses burn. It is the just punishment of an irredeemable society. So they smile while the world burns, convinced that the people who are suffering deserved it for not being sufficiently "woke."

I have to admit there are certain people I know who, were their own homes to be smashed up by the mob, I would feel a certain amount of schadenfreude. This, based on their having expressed something close to support for the rioters.

We missed one other way that the autonomous zone could be handled. This is the money graf (bolding mine): Ultimately, CHAZ is doomed. Either Trump will come in with troops or Durkan and Inslee will finally realize they have to fulfill their oaths to protect the citizens they supposedly represent (there are approximately 500 American homes inside the “sovereign” territory of CHAZ). Or — and this would be truly hilarious — the federal government will recognize CHAZ as a sovereign country, levy tariffs on its goods, refuse to send “foreign aid,” force CHAZ citizens to present CHAZ passports when entering the U.S., and otherwise isolate and destroy CHAZ by meeting this “foreign country’s” demands.

Seattle CHAZ

Todd Herman read a comment on air about CHAZ. They took land and property without compensation. The set up borders. They have armed guards on the border. They demand ID to enter. Who do they think they are ... Trump?

Wait until the new "Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone" (CHAZ) establishes a whorehouse as its means of making money. The new establishment will be the "Capitol Hill Erogenous Zone" (CHEZ), and will be named "Chez CHAZ" to make it sound classy.

Of course; its the same people---literally in some cases, ideologically/attitudinally in others.

I'll be delighted to hear NPR explaining how these aren't rape-rapes.
Just kidding. NPR won't mention this at all, of course.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 13: When the collective is supreme and the individual a non-entity. A person's body becomes community property. Therefore it is not rape-rape.

Any donation made to Black Lives Matter via their website is actually made through the organization ActBlue, and there is no indication of how much money is actually being made to the BLM organization. Via OpenSecrets.org, we can see that *large* donations of money have gone to Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and other *white* Democrat politicians. Some money has gone to the DNC and the DSCC which may be going to black candidates, but there's little evidence that this is doing anything for blacks themselves. My day was singularly unproductive. I was in meetings from 10 to 4, with a short break for lunch. Most of the meetings were about how crucial it is that we each do our part to ensure a deadline is met next week. I'd have a better chance of meeting the deadline if I weren't in a meeting answering fun team-building questions about my ideal vacation spot.

Reply to vxbush in 26: You are absolutely right. I am not as introverted as some people - I enjoy socializing, but I have my limit. I just hate having my day broken up to where I have 15-30 minutes between meetings. It's not enough time to dig in and get anything done.
