I guess it's time to break out the Bennington flag.

Really annoyed.  Bought two new shirts from an outfit I've gotten shirts from before.  Same style, same size, except these don't fit.  I've been running into that lately -- the older ones I have fit fine but the new ones in the same size don't.

Do not stay inside under lockdown this Independence Day.

Let it be the Sally Fourth!

It’s because of the metric system. The same reason that a quarter pounder in Amsterdam is called a Royale with cheese...

Every Fourth of July I listen to Ballad for Americans.  If you are not aware of, or familiar with, this ten-minute cantata, I urge you to become so---not only because it's pretty good in itself, but because this piece, written by a communist, and with a communist lead singer (Paul Robeson) was wildly popular across the country at the time it came out, for its patriotism and optimism.

It is instructive to see how fundamentally pro-American it is:  even while admitting, at the end, to America's flaws ("...Out of the cheating, out of the shouting, out of the murders and lynchings...") it ends by saying, "Our country's strong, our country's young, and the greatest songs are still unsung..."  It is also "multicultural," by the standards of its day.

It is worth listening to, not only for itself, but for a reminder of how America was, even across ideological lines, not so very long ago.

I have two pairs of shorts,  same brand, same style, same size, different colors, bought at the same time. One pair fits and the other is two sizes too small. I suppose one pair was just mislabeled but it's really irritating.

This Paul Robeson dude was obviously some kind of white supremacist... let's find a statue of him to pull down!

In this case I think it's because all men's clothes now seem to be cut for soy swilling millennial waif-boys.

The "Li'l Abner" style---too-tight clothing, too-short pants---has been popular with the kiddies for the last several years, mostly to show that the kiddies are thin and fit and buff unlike those damn Boomers.

Last night Oldest Boy was remarking on the problem with Leftard NPCs is that they have to keep changing out the 5 1/4" diskettes in their brains when forced to come up with a response.

I think they have ROM - read only memory. Once it is programmed, impossible to change

I thought the "76" was a reference to the 76 trombones in "The Music Man"---because we've got trouble, my friends; we've got terrible, terrible trouble, right here in Diversity!

Just got back from the range. It’s been months since I’ve been shooting, so I enjoyed it, even though there was a limit of one box per customer of 9 mm. Lesson learned, next time I bring all my guns and I get one box per gun. I also finally did something I’ve been procrastinating on for two years; signed up for a concealed carry class for next month.  In the meantime I’ll start the paperwork.

I wonder when the leftist government of some cities will figure out if all the honest people leave, there will be no one left paying taxes to pay their salaries?

Have today through Monday off. Arranged for scheduled service on my car. Wife's car wouldn't start, so went in mine and waited.

Her car was making a loud enough clicking the dealer thought it would't be easy to start, but AAA jump started it. Needed new battery. I'll have to take her car once a week to keep it in shape.

So day 1 of time off goes to errands; at least I got to sleep later. 5:45-6 is a pain and when traffic gets bad again, I'll have to get up earlier.

I think you may see more cities try to merge with their surrounding counties so they can collect those sweet suburban property taxes. Offhand, I can think of Athens-Clarke County, Georgia, Miami-Dade, and Memphis-Shelby County that have merged some operations, mainly law enforcement and schools. I'm not sure how property taxes are handled in those cities. I do know that a lot of unincorporated areas in Metro Atlanta became cities over the last 20 years to avoid being swallowed up by Atlanta. My city is one of them - we have our own police department and other city services, although the schools are still run by the county.

A Count was the ruler of a County.

And those schools probably aren't doing a decent job of teaching kids to count

My youngest graduated 10 years ago. I cannot believe how much worse it's gotten in such a short time.
