Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 2: By the way...some years ago I donated a couple of yads to my synagogue. One was carved bone, the other a shaft of stone capped with copper at each end (the hand was copper with a silver wash, now mostly worn off). You'd think that such objects would be treated with respect---whether for their ritual purpose, or out of respect for the aesthetic quality of the object, or maybe even out of respect for the donor having contributed them. You'd be wrong. The've managed to break the bone one three times; DEZ, back at the old C2, did a repair job on it but they managed to break his repair. I've repaired it 3 times, and the stone-and-copper one at least 5 times. The last time, I had to put a copper collar on the stone shaft, as they'd managed to not merely rip the hand off and bend the pointing finger, but actually break the stone in two. This time, I thought, it was idiot-proof. Well, I was wrong. Went to services yesterday and they'd managed to break the stone shaft again. I think I know how to fix it, but they're not getting it back. If they can't respect something like that, they don't deserve it.

I guess the Lakers won the championship tonight and, as usual, there is a very huge group gathering outside the Staples Center. I hope it doesn't turn in to a riot. Sometimes it does, even win they win.
