My day.

All day with Corp. IT.

I'm locked out of everything after changing a password.

What it took all day to figure out.

If computers are not updated, IT policies quarantines that computer.

This particular computer I used for testing software updates a few weeks ago. Since then no one has used it and it didn't get updated and got quarantined.

Friday I update my password, log out and log on to test if works, all fine.

Monday it started I'm locked out of systems, but manage to unlock them and work.

This morning I'm locked out... hard.

IT unlocks me, I can get into some systems but not most, especially the software tools which use the windows logon (LDAP).

IT tells me I'm unlocked. I looked unlocked, it should work.

Everytime I logon even with the correct password the system generates a failed logon attempt, 3 tries and it locks. Well I logon on to my laptop, then on to the remote desktop, then the tools... that's 3 and boom I'm locked out using a correct password and successful logon.

IT had to identify the machine generating the errors.

It was that test machine, because it was quarantined it didn't get the update for my password change, but it would generate a failed logon attempt because it didn't have my update password.... even though I wasn't using the machine.

Then we find out the machine has been physically moved and no one was sure where it was.

After it was located, and IT shut it down.... everything works.

Took all friggen day.

I had to find a file my wife stored in the wrong place. Linux tools (Windows Linux Subsystem) to the rescue! Found it easily.

Funny thing, my current job is largely Linux, and the last time I used any *ix system professionally was almost 20 years before I got the job.

But they sent out a coding test that ran in Linux, and figured if you could get through the coding test, you were good. Only about 1/3 of the people they sent the test to got it to work. Most coding tests are designed to weed out utter incompetents, and let them pick who they want of the rest. I had one where they rejected me because I didn't format comments well enough. . In Python, which was never one of my primary languages. My solution ran as fast as theirs. But where I work, my solution took 7x the time of theirs - but their test was VERY difficult, and their solution had some specific optimizations.

I got a call from Desert Sage today and told him about this blog but no guarantees he'll post here.  He's tired of social media it sounds like.  Otherwise he seems fine and is staying busy.

Israel should explain that its airstrikes are a jobs creation program for the Gaza construction industry.

A couple years ago something similar used to happen to me every time I changed the password at my workplace. It has not been a problem lately. Hopefully it still isn’t, since I had to change my password tonight. Fingers crossed.

Except the Gaza construction industry seems to be only building tunnels to hide weapons and invade Israel
