The media complained how Reagan and Trump were unpredictable, Reagan especially was a "cowboy" in the pejorative sense.

They were very clear in their outlook, and in many cases their response. However the perceived unpredictability is a good thing.

Our adversaries have to tread more carefully, because in their minds the President might go off on them.

Look what they accomplished. Reagan the dissolution of the Soviet Union first and foremost. Trump got Kim Un to dial things back and those Mid-East Peace Treaties, the ChiComs and Russians dialed back their aggressive posturing.

The appeasement route doesn't work.... Carter, Obama, Biden... never understood how "Peace in our time" really works out.

When Trump was running I would be asked what I thought of him.

I'd respond that if he won, we should have a Trump building in every major city; no o.ne would dare attack.

They thought I was being funny. I was not. Except he'd retaliate even without a Trump building

Okay, I'm no longer really astonished; just sort of... historically so.

And his observation here is bang-on.  Leftists simply want their political adversaries (real or perceived) imprisoned... or worse.  They don't care what they have to do this Republic in order to make that happen.
