I think I may have actually had a beer there, last time I was in Dublin in 2013.

You know why Ireland is so rich? It's capital is always Dublin

(Might have to speak that one to get it)

Same as:

Why are people in Moscow on the go-go-go?

Because they're Russian

Dammit.  Beatrice Lillie doing "Three White Feathers" is not on Youtube.

The song is about someone who comes from humble beginnings---i.e., a family that ran a pawnshop---is being presented at Court.  The chorus is, "Today it will be three white feathers (the symbol of the Prince of Wales), but yesterday was three brass balls (i.e. the symbol of a pawnshop)."

Good song; wish I could post it.

Years ago, I had to do an academic book cover, for a book about "Global Debt and the Third World."  I proposed using a three-brass-balls pawnshop symbol, each of which would be drawn as a world-globe, to symbolize the twin ideas of "global debt" and "the third world."

The art director, a sweet young thing, nixed the idea---because she didn't know what a pawnshop symbol was.

If they were still using the now-verboten term “Third World”, that must have been years ago, indeed….

Now, of course, it’s “developing world”; whether or not the country in question is actually “developing” being irrelevant.
