Just did major surgery on a laptop. Dell sent me a new SSD with Windows on it. Boy, those things are tiny. 512GB SSD barely bigger than a postage stamp.

Now it is up to Preparing Windows.

Let's see if it fixes the original problem, which was that when copying a lot of data over the local network, the wifi adapter would stop working and need to be reset  In trying to fix that, other problems showed up, some serious OS corruption, and after an OS reinstall, the same problem was there. So new hard drive. And the support level I have says I don't have to return the old one.

The system came up fine, but the original problem is still there. I am requesting a new replacement. 

I have an older Dell that does not have the problem (wifi disconnects during large data copies) so it is not elsewhere in the network. And a cheap HP works fine, too.

I bought a used Dell laptop a few months back.  It was a Windows 7 converted to Windows 10.  Knock on wood that it keeps working for awhile.

24 hour rule and all that, and Lord knows we’ve seen lots of bad information over the years coming out about alleged  American military “atrocities” overseas. But if the story turns out to be true, I will bet you dollars to donuts that the Biden administration was stupid enough to actually rely on the Taliban to give them intelligence about whom to hit.

And the Taliban “punked” them.

The Biden gang have been so frantically invested in rehabilitating the image of the Taliban, I would not put it past them.

I tend to be harder on my computers. Any kind of software development needs 12 GB, preferred 16 up. Plus 8 logical processors for game development, but I've taken a break from that to take a course on Machine Learning (MIT Open CourseWare version of their actual MIT course.)

Even that will need a decent system. 

The course prerequisites are Python programming, Linear Algebra, and (multivariable) calculus. A bit rusty, but nothing a few minutes can't solve. Started it last weekend; still have the week 1 homework to do. Starts with distance a point is from a hyperplane. Page 170 or so in the textbook I have on math for scientists and engineers. Stuff I used to know, 40 years ago
