Ballad For Americans I always play this 10-minute cantata on July 4th.   Yes, I know that Paul Robeson, the lead singer, was a Communist (indeed, so was Earl Robinson, the author of the piece), but the sentiments expressed in the piece still stand up as conservative, or reasonably-conservative, American values.  The piece does not try to skew or distort American history; it does not gloss over slavery, or greed, or chicanery, and it promotes the true "multiculturalism" of the melting pot rather than the divisiveness of today.
