Is anyone watching the Jeopardy GOAT tournament? If so, what was Final Jeopardy in the first game tonight? The category was US Political History.

No cable TV or antenna or paid streaming service (other than Amazon Prime).

I have an idea for a musical.

Schroedinger's CATS!

You can't tell if it is a hit or dead until you open the box office

How do you live?!

I paused the TV to make myself a drink and when I came back, Hulu had decided I didn't need to go back to the point where I paused. It's one of the most irritating features.

I have an inkling of the “fighting off a cold“ feeling. I figured Bailey’s Irish cream is just what the doctor ordered.

That's as good a reason as any.

I'm having an unseasonal gin & tonic. My daughter bought me a big-ass bottle of gin for Christmas. She knows me.

We gave up on cable when it was $116/month, and we relied on the DVR to see anything, because we never had time when it was on, and the DVR was getting full of stuff we didn't have time to watch.

Our TV watching when we get to it is Deadliest Catch on Amazon Prime. We do have to pay for the show, but it is not that expensive. It, plus a year of Prime, is probably less than we'd be paying for cable.

Both of our TVs have Roku Express, and that is largely what we use.

“A big-ass bottle” versus “a big ass-bottle.”

Discuss.

I have Amazon Prime and I use my ex's Netflix and Disney Plus. I used to use his Hulu but they got wise to that so I got my own subscription.

I remember the Art Fleming days. It was shot in NYC, and I lived in NJ, so from the age of 8 I wanted to go on the show. It was canceled around the time I was finally old enough; I didn't get my shot until I was 37.

This tournament is brutal - I'm getting fewer than a third of the responses right and I still feel like a genius.

We wonder how people find time to watch TV. Even the Deadliest Catch watching was done when we had time off

I should read more, but I just don't have the mental energy lately.

I thought of, but never tried, to get on the show.

When we did have it on, my wife and daughter told me not to give them the questions so quickly, so that they could think of them.

At the previous employer, I did win their Jeopardy game at one of the events. All telephony questions.
I got a plastic winner's cup and a bottle of bubbly out of it, too. And I was a last minute contestant because soemeone dropped out.

However, they did not have the lockout where the host had to read the question before the buzzers worked. I didn't realize that until later. I read very quickly, and had read the answers before anyone else.

I have the fix to have new users start as guests, and then get upgraded.

Next, time zones. (A lot of work, actually)

It's a shame you never tried out. You know I was on the show, right?

The buzzer lockout is tricky. When Alex reads the question, there's a human being named Michelle who "arms" the system when he finishes speaking. A series of pin lights comes on along either side of the board and they go off one at a time as the timer runs down. If you wait for the lights, you're too late - you have to get the cadence of Alex's voice to buzz in. If you're too early, you're locked out for a quarter of a second, and that's often enough to miss out completely.

I know you were on the show, yes.

PJMedia had an article on it - you have to pay your own way out to CA. And have to be very good to make enough to pay it back. Not worth the time.

That's true, although they do pay your way for tournaments. I did it to fulfill a lifelong dream and to prove something. The money was nice, but not the primary motivation. I had no idea I'd win more than one game.

I gave up on dreams.

Seems to be a problem in the family. I had an aunt who wanted to visit Hawaii. She did - and died there. Her sisters had to get the body back.

I had a dream to work for a big computer company. I did, and had some good years, then some lousy ones, and that company is gone, but at least I'm still here

More than one part of that song resonates with me, but if I get relaxed (drunk) enough to explain it, I won't be able to type.

Let's just say we did get married at a courthouse, but not because my wife was pregnant, but because of some family stuff.

I have never read War and Peace, but Thomas Wolfe quotes from it in one of his novels, and it's the closest I have to a motto.

"Prince Andrei looked up at the stars and sighed; everything was so different from what he had thought it would be."
