From last night's thread:
In #36 Occasional Reader said: I don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but around here (which is deep, deep blue), in order to fire a full-auto firearm at a range, you: 1) Find a range that has them for rent; 2) Pay your money; 3) Take a quick safety "class"; and 4) You're off to the races. You missed 0: Convince your wife to let you do that.

We need statements that sound like Biden's "If you don't vote for me you ain't black" line, and make as little sense. I'll start. "If you don't hire my son, you ain't Ukranian"

In #2 Kosh's Shadow said: "If you don't hire my son, you ain't Ukranian" Ignoring the typo, the true version is "If you don't fire the prosecutor after the company paying my drug addict son a lot of money, you ain't getting US aid"

As for corporate takeovers, the company I referred to last night ran itself into the ground, and I jumped out as soon as I could get a parachute. To a company that also was bought out, but in a benign manner. The new parent company didn't allow alcohol on the premises, but looked the other way when they saw beer in the refrigerator. Then there was my previous company, bought by an investment firm with the initials TB. As in the disease. Symptom, layoffs. I survived a bit there, vastly underpaid, but I could frequently work from home. At my age, in software, only government sites will hire me, as they don't want to violate age discrimination rules. Not that it was easy to get this job - I had to pass a coding test that had a failure rate of 67%. Most coding tests have a pass rate probably over 90%, and then they nitpick and find a reason to not hire you (other than you're too old). So, all you taxpayers, I'm making a good pay, but at least you are getting something worth it; our work saves the government money and gives them more flexible systems. And I have a nice letter (generic) from the Air Force that says that I'm essential.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 6: Maybe you could improve things in WA. The State insists on writing on it's own software. They say it is more efficient than working software dev companies. It only inflates the State payroll, resulting in more union money following into the re-election campaign of Gov. Stupid and Lazy. I've been on several State sites and they can't even do a mailto link... Anyway the result of this homebrewed software mentality is that when they revised the unemployment system for the extra load due to COVID they left out many common security features. Result is scammers have walked off with a Billion taxpayer dollars. But you won't hear the cause of this from the media. Washington State Hit Hard By Unemployment Fraud
