I saw the discussion of ads on the previous thread. I really can't imagine how people would be so stupid to click on clickbait but still able to use a computer to do so.

And Tucker Carlson calls the BLM movement the most powerful political party in the US. That worries me. They hate Jews with an intersectional passion. I figured Jews had another 10 years or so in the US, before the college students who minored in Jew-hatred (whether they knew it or not) started running things, but I'm not so sure now.

In #5 buzzsawmonkey said: Kosh---did you see my comment atop the day thread regarding the old 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea film? Yes, thanks. The only link I can find to the article requires New Yorker subscription. But the entire movie is on youtube
and there are other IMDB and Wikipedia articles on the movie as well. The book itself isn't in great shape. Don't get to used bookstores much now.

The woke toddlers at Twitter have discovered that Aunt Jemima is based on a minstrel show character. Despite the fact that in her current iteration Auntie J clearly looks like she went to college and became a manager, pancakes are now canceled. Uncle Ben was not available for comment.

Reply to doppelganglander in 7: Sidebar: The first time I saw stereotypical minstrel show characters depicted in tchotchkes (salt and pepper shakers, figurines, and whatnot), they were for sale in an antique shop in California. I was shocked, but the manager told me that they were highly collectible, and most of her buyers were black. This was in the mid-'80s; I'm not sure how that would go over today.

While "Aunt Jemima" predated her, the Italian actress Tess Gardella made a career performing in blackface as "Aunt Jemima." She is the "black" singer in the last section of the "I'm Laughing" sequence from the 1934 film "Stand Up and Cheer."

Reply to buzzsawmonkey in 11: That was just awful - I mean, artistically really bad. She's about as convincing as a black woman as Taylor Swift. Interesting, though, that Hollywood was making movies designed to cheer up Depression-era Americans. No whining, no blaming the system, just rolling up your sleeves and getting to work.
