Repost from last night:

In #17 buzzsawmonkey said: And now, the Paranoia Scenario: Trump wins the election, despite the vote-count shenanigans. Between his being pronounced winner and his swearing-in, an assassin gets him on the third (or will it be the fourth by then?) try. Because Trump's running-mate Vance was not running for president, but only for vice-president, and neither had been sworn in, the Democrats declare that Kamala Harris, sitting vice-president, is the legitimate president despite having lost the election. If necessary, Senile Joe---if he hasn't yet kicked off before this occurs---will have an unfortunate accident with either choking on an ice-cream cone or improperly operating a MyPillow, so Harris will technically be the actual president (or, they could merely invoke the 25th Amendment, if the other things don't work) and, therefore, will claim that despite having been nominated without a single Democrat vote, and despite having lost the actual election, will---as the sitting president---become the president immediately and be sworn in as such.

I've had a similar thought - that Trump gets killed before the election, and some critical states decide that since Vance was not the presidential candidate, votes for Trump go nowhere, so Camel-ass wins

Something you don't hear in the MSM or even Fox about the second would-be assassin:

Jew-hater

‘It was all Palestine’ – Suspect in attempted Trump assassination denied Jewish ties to Israel

I will speculate that his prior support for Trump ended when he found Trump supports Israel and Jews. I wonder where he keeps his copy of "Mein Kampf".

This part, I assume?

On December 7th, 2023, Routh also appeared to weigh in on the Israeli-Arab conflict, tweeting a map of the biblical Holy Land, showing the Land of Israel divided into Judea, Samaria, and the Galilee.

Above the map, Routh wrote that the entire area appeared to be “historically” all Palestinian, based on the title of the map: “Map of Palestine.”

“I am unclear what part of Isreal [sic] the Jews owned based on this historic map; Judea perhaps? it seems to historically all be palestinian,” he tweeted.

Oy. Talk about clueless. He could have found sources to fix his misunderstanding, but then that would have to accept that he was wrong. I'm guessing he didn't even consider that a possibility.

Q: How much of the vitriol against Trump is designed to create more Rouths from those who follow the news and can't stand Trump to begin with? How many times can someone hear "Trump is a threat to our democracy" before they also hear the unsaid subtext "and someone should take him out"?

Whatever happened to the line, "My opponent isn't a bad man, but I fundamentally disagree with his positions on these topics"?

Here's why I ask the question:

“DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose.” That might sound like a soundbite from your least favorite CNN or MSNBC talking heads, and it probably is, but in this case, it is a direct quote from a social media post by the man identified as the attempted Trump assassin.

He got the subtext early. He posted that in April.

Rewarding the murderers:

The initiative to give the “State of Palestine” a seat in the General Assembly began six months after Palestinians murdered 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023. “In May,” the Times of Israel notes, “an overwhelming majority of the General Assembly asserted that Palestinians deserved full membership, a move that has been blocked by the United States, which along with Israel says recognition of Palestinian statehood must come through a peace agreement.” One of the conditions of Palestinian statehood has always been that the “State of Palestine” recognizes Israel’s right to exist and pledges to live in peace with it. That is something that Palestinian leaders have never been willing to do.

Nevertheless, the UN charged ahead with the plans to reward the Palestinians, apparently under the delusion that a Palestinian state would end all the strife. Thus, “starting with the 79th General Assembly session, which began Tuesday, the Palestinians can submit proposals and amendments, and sit among member states.” Riyad Mansour, the envoy of the “State of Palestine” to the UN, “took his place on Tuesday afternoon at a table marked “State of Palestine” between Sri Lanka and Sudan.”

RNC Achieved Yet Another Election Integrity Victory in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania state law requires that voters sign and date their mail ballots in order for them to be considered, which the RNC refers to as "an important election integrity safeguard" when it comes to providing background about this latest victory. However, leftist groups filed lawsuits to try to strike down the date requirement. Ballots that are misdated or undated will not be counted.

If I'm reading this right, this might be the key to the July 19 event:

The Secret Service's Counter Surveillance Division, which performs threat assessments of event sites, did not perform a typical evaluation of the Butler site and was not present on the day of the rally.

So who did? Probably the lead agent in Pennsylvania, who almost certainly didn't know as much about securing a site as the division mentioned above. How likely does it seem that this same division did not do an analysis of the golf course where Trump was playing Sunday?

Let's call this one today's training video:

I am not a lawyer, but I know lawyers on this blog, and I'd love to hear if this guy did anything wrong in his interaction with the feds. Because this looks pretty solid to me. But I'm always willing to learn better techniques.

Archaeologists believe this Bronze Age board game is the oldest yet found

A full history of board games would be an interesting book to have.

Gun nerd post:  The initial reports said that Routh was using an "AK-47", with a few slightly more gun-literate journos using a more careful "AK-style" or "AK-pattern" rifle nomenclature.   Now I'm seeing more recent media reports (Financial Times and, in more detail, USA Today) that claim it was actually a "sporterized" SKS rifle, modified to accept an AK-type detachable magazine, instead of the SKS's usual internal magazine.  Have any of youse guys seen anything authoritative on this?

Hundreds reported injured as pagers issued to Hizballah members explode.

This is reminiscent of the Hamas (I think) bomb-maker that the Mossad zapped back in the 90s, using an exploding cellphone.

So they all went off at once? Quite the coordinated attack. I wonder how long the pagers have been in place and whether these were "seeded" some time ago.

It is possible that there was a software exploit that caused a runaway battery. However intercepting a shipment of pagers and booby trapping them is a more complex but feasible feat.

An online comment with absolutely no source claimed a simple software exploit would allow any of the pagers to explode and that the logic boards already had explosive materials on them. That seemed extremely farfetched to me. Exploding battery? That is slightly more likely but I would have expected the pagers to explode when the temperatures were at their hottest. I'm assuming temps are coming down in Israel as elsewhere in the northern hemisphere.

A Reuters article from July 9 notes that cell phones had been discontinued in Hezbollah's ranks and they had returned to pagers. If this happened in July, that might have been recent enough to set up a bunch of them as future incendiary devices.

On the plus side for Hizballah, based on some of the video that is circulating, they’ll have a lot of new contratenors available for their chorus.

I have to admit, the Mossad remake of Ow, My Balls! is more entertaining than the American original.

Best I can come up with is this:

Captain Queeg rolled two steel balls

    Right there in his hand

    The Mossad scattered Hezbollah balls

    All across the land
